Barry, "the grumpy chef"

HISTORY 

Barry came to Albuquerque in 1978 because he knew he could play golf year round.  In 1979 he opened the "Sizzling Oasis" in a former A&W Root Beer building. 

In 1982, the restaurant was moved to 5400 San Mateo.  The word "Sizzling" was dropped from the restaurant's name because some people confused the Oasis with a chain of Steak Houses.  With the move, the menu was expanded beyond just sandwiches.

The restaurant's name was again changed to Barry's Oasis. Some of our customers refer to us as "Barry's place".  One evening, before everyone carried cell phones, loyal customers told friends to meet them at "Barry's place" - assuming their friends knew where the Oasis was.  The friends could not find us in the phone book so they did not show up for dinner.  We are now in the phone book under both "Barry's Oasis" and "Oasis Restaurant".

In October 2002, we moved into our own building at 4451 Osuna.   We are at the intersection of Interstate 25 and Osuna (Exit 230).  If you are a visitor to our Land of Enchantment or just want directions to our front door - Email or call us 505-884-2324.  We check our Email mid-morning & mid-afternoon daily.

We are proud to brag that we are now serving the third generation of some Albuquerque families.  Many former Duke City residents return to town, on business, and stop by to say "hello" and have dinner.
